Curcuma longa (turmeric) is a perennial, rhizomatous leafy plant (Curcuma longa) of the ginger (zingiberaceae) family that grows predominantly in tropical and subtropical Asian countries including India and China. Curcumin is the main biologically active curcuminoid constituent naturally occurring in turmeric roots and rhizomes that together with two curcuminoids (demethoxycurcumin and bis-demethoxycurcumin) and essential oils are responsible for the herb’s therapeutic effects.

Evail Technology In its raw state, curcumin is a lipophilic constituent and consequently has very low bioavailability, solubility, absorption and tissue distribution and is rapidly eliminated. Enabling curcumin’s full therapeutic potential requires appropriate modification to enhance such bioavailability and absorption while retaining its natural medicinal properties.

Joint health & Anti-inflammatory support  Osteoarthritis is a common degenerative joint condition defined by the breakdown of cartilage and bone with inflammation, pain and loss of mobility occurring within joints throughout the body. Consequently, clinical management of osteoarthritis mainly requires targeting inflammation to help alleviate associated mild pain and joint mobility symptoms. Curcumin has been shown to be effective for improving mild pain and mobility parameters in osteoarthritis subjects.

Antioxidant support  Curcumin is known as a lipid-soluble antioxidant, reducing free radical damage to cells. Lipid soluble antioxidants work via several mechanisms; via directly scavenging and neutralising several forms of reactive oxygen, nitrogen and peroxyl radical species and via inducing endogenous antioxidant enzyme activity and levels (glutathione peroxidase, glutathione reductase, glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase and catalase) and activates Nrf2 signalling pathways.
